Creative Arts Emmys: ‘The Bear’ Sweeps Guest Acting in a Comedy Categories

Jon Bernthal and Jamie Lee Curtis both won for their guest roles on the FX series.

Judy Reyes and Michael Cyril Creighton presented the award for guest actor. Bernthal, who wasn’t in attendance, was nominated along with Matthew Broderick (Only Murders in the Building, Hulu), Ryan Gosling (Saturday Night Live, NBC), Christopher Lloyd (Hacks, HBO/Max), Bob Odenkirk (The Bear, FX) and Will Poulter (The Bear, FX).

Lessons in Chemistry stars Brie Larson and Courtney McBroom presented the award to Curtis, who was nominated alongside Olivia Colman (The Bear, FX), Kaitlin Olson (Hacks, HBO/Max), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Only Murders in the Building, Hulu), Maya Rudolph (Saturday Night Live, NBC) and Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live, NBC).

“Helped people help people, and I think that’s really the strength of The Bear,” Curtis said in her acceptance speech. “To be the source of someone’s pain is really difficult, yet to watch these groups of people come together and work it out is astonishing to me at this point in my life.”

Curtis told The Hollywood Reporter in a previous interview how hard it was keeping her guest role on the comedy a secret.

“I am a weapon of mass promotion, someone who is really good at getting the fucking word out,” she shared. “I kept my mouth shut correctly, as did everyone. That’s the power of this. I’m all for promoting, but if something needs to be kept a secret to let people find out on their own, I will turn that phone off for the rest of my life.”
