The second night of the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys has crowned its winners.
The annual two-day event, which takes place the weekend before the Primetime Emmys, saw 99 TV awards handed out to mostly below-the-line categories, as well as recognition for guest actor and actress roles. Awards announced on Sunday included honors for comedy, drama and limited series, after Saturday was largely devoted to variety, nonfiction and reality. Big winners on Saturday included Jim Henson Idea Man, Saturday Night Live, Billy Joel: The 100th — Live at Madison Square Garden, Welcome to Wrexham and The 96th Oscars.
Shogun was the far-and-away winner at Sunday’s ceremony, collecting 14 of the evening’s 49 awards, including guest actor in a drama for Nestor Carbonell. The Bear cleaned up in the comedy categories, landing seven honors, with two for guest actor and actress in a comedy for Jon Bernthal and Jamie Lee Curtis; Michaela Coel rounded out the guest actor wins for her performance in Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
Ripley, The Morning Show, Baby Reindeer, Only Murders in the Building, The Crown and Mr. & Mrs. Smith also each picked up multiple trophies. The night saw two members join the EGOT club as well, with the wins of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul for their original music and lyrics in Only Murders.
The Sunday show was packed with A-list presenters, starting with Curtis to kick off the evening followed by Carbonell, Alex Edelman, Parker Posey, Phillipa Soo, Giovanni Ribisi, Jimmy O. Yang, Desi Lydic, Aria Moa Loberti, Brie Larson and Courtney McBroom, Damon Wayans Jr. and Austin Stowell, Allison Tolman and Wendi Mclendon-Covey, Sophie Skelton and Devery Jacobs, Sagar Radia and Yaya DaCosta, Judy Reyes and Michael Cyril Creighton, Luke Tennie and Adam Pally, and Harriet Dyer and Patrick Brammall.
The ceremonies, which took place at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, were not televised live, but will be highlighted in an edited presentation that will air Sept. 14 on FXX. Due to last year’s Hollywood strikes pushing the 2023 Emmys to January of this year, the 2024 awards are being handed out just eight months after the last round.
Previously announced winners in juried categories including animation, costume, motion design and innovation in emerging media programming were also presented during the Creative Arts weekend.
Coming into the Emmys, Shogun led the pack with 25 total nominations, followed by The Bear (with 23 nominations, a comedy series record), Only Murders in the Building (21), True Detective: Night Country (19) and The Crown (18), as the Primetime ceremony will take place on Sept. 15.
